D-I-Y No-stick Cooking/Baking Spray

Have you ever used a waffle iron or griddle with enthusiasm because you long for perfectly crisp waffles but only end up with something that looks like a waffle sticking to both sides of the griddle? Have you ever tried to search grocery aisles for a cheaper version of the Non-Stick Spray or more popularly known as PAM but end up with a product that gives you poor results or is not available in that particular grocery? If you answered a resounding YES to both questions, you might want to consider making your own. The good thing? You don’t have to spend hours looking for it in the grocery…and you know what stuff is in the mix. The hitch? It isn’t in spray form.


Here’s a quick and easy recipe for you to try out that only takes about 5 minutes.


1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup vegetable oil


Add all ingredients in a mixing bowl.
Stir thoroughly until well combined and all lumps have disappeared.
Transfer to a clean and resealable container.
No need to refrigerate.

To use: Transfer a small portion of the mixture into a small bowl and brush on the griddle or pan. You can even use this on your baking pans or wherever you need to use a non-stick cooking spray.
